I Don't Want to Break. I Want to Pivot.

I'm tired of fighting battles that shouldn't have to be battles. I don't want to break. I want to pivot — and build a world where people don't have to come so close to breaking before somebody decides to help.

I've been thinking a lot lately.

About pain. About survival. About how much energy it takes just to get through an ordinary day when your life is anything but ordinary.

I'm tired.

Not tired of living. Not tired of dreaming. Not tired of believing that my life has purpose.

I'm tired of fighting battles that shouldn't have to be battles.

I'm fighting for my health. I'm fighting for my income. I'm fighting to maintain my independence. I'm fighting to continue building a future that I still believe is possible.

And some days, I wonder why everything has to be so difficult.

I Don't Want to Break

I want to pivot.

I want solutions.

I want to wake up one morning and not have to prepare myself for another battle with another system, another office, another set of paperwork, or another person who doesn't understand what it takes for me just to show up.

I live with pain. Real pain.

There are days when medication helps me function and makes it difficult to concentrate at the same time.

Imagine that.

The very thing that helps you get through your day can also make it harder to accomplish the things you need to do.

And while I'm managing all of that, life doesn't stop.

Bills don't stop.

Responsibilities don't stop.

Deadlines don't stop.

And the systems that are supposed to help don't always communicate with one another.

Why Should Struggling People Have to Prove They're Struggling?

Why should someone who is already struggling have to spend so much energy proving that they're struggling?

Why do we make people repeat their stories, provide the same documents, and navigate complicated processes when they're already physically and emotionally exhausted?

We call ourselves one of the greatest countries in the world.

Then prove it.

Prove it through systems that communicate.

Prove it through healthcare that treats people as human beings.

Prove it through disability services that recognize the individual instead of forcing everyone into the same box.

Prove it through processes that don't punish people for becoming ill.

We can do better.

And we should.

I'm Not Asking Someone to Live My Life for Me

I'm asking for the opportunity to live it without having to fight unnecessarily for every inch of progress.

I have spent much of my life advocating for other people. Helping people find their voices. Encouraging people who felt invisible, marginalized, or forgotten.

Now I'm experiencing firsthand how exhausting it can be to need the very advocacy I've spent years providing.

And I'm learning.

I'm learning that strength doesn't mean pushing until your body gives out.

Strength can mean resting.

Strength can mean asking for help.

Strength can mean saying, "This isn't working. We need another solution."

I Want to Live — Not Just Survive

I don't want to spend the rest of my life simply surviving one crisis after another.

I want to live.

I want moments of peace.

I want laughter.

I want to build my business, continue my education, enjoy my family, and make a difference.

I want days when life feels a little smoother.

Is that too much to ask?

I don't think so.

And if you're reading this while fighting your own battles, I want you to know something.

You deserve more than endless survival.

You deserve dignity.

You deserve systems that work.

You deserve the opportunity to build a life that means something to you.

I'm Still Here

I can't promise that tomorrow will be easier.

I can't even promise that my own tomorrow will be easier.

And I can promise that I will continue looking for solutions.

Because I'm not finished.

I'm still here.

I'm still thinking.

I'm still advocating.

I'm still becoming.

I don't want to break. I want to pivot.

And maybe, just maybe, we can build a world where people don't have to come so close to breaking before somebody decides to help.

LIVE. DON'T JUST EXIST.
